The annual KBA Health-check is open now. For existing KBA Guardians please enter or update your Health-check online now https://portal.birdlife.org.au/kba-health-check. If you are new to KBAs and want to take on a KBA Guardian role or if you need support with the KBA Health-check portal please contact Golo Maurer, the National KBA Program Coordinator by e-mail or phone: kba@birdlife.org.au , 0467 444 114.

Last year’s Health-Check saw a slight drop in reports, possibly a result of the pandemic. Thank you for everyone who found the opportunity to assess ‘their’ KBA in this difficult time. KBAs are one of the four pillars of BirdLife’s new Bird Conservation Strategy, so your contribution is incredibly important in telling us how to best save birds and their habitat. The more we know about KBAs, the trends in their threats and successful conservation actions, the more focused and effective our conservation work can be.

And it is not just BirdLife conservation work that depends on this knowledge. For instance, all six priority sites announced already under the Commonwealth Threatened Species Strategy are KBAs!

Please help us get back over the 100 Health-checks mark in 2022 as a solid basis for habitat conservation in Australia and update your KBA health-check now.

Happy Health-checks and thanks again for your help improving the places that matter most for wildlife in Australia.
