Welcome Amanda Lilleyman, new KBA Project Coordinator
Dr Amanda Lilleyman has come on board the Citizen Science team in the role of KBA Project Coordinator.
Amanda joins us as an employee after many years of volunteering for BirdLife, in various roles: shorebird counter and volunteer for the Australasian Wader Studies Group (AWSG), convenor of BirdLife Top End and organiser of the hit 2019 Australasian Ornithological Conference in Darwin, Northern Territory. No surprise then that starting in the KBA role feels like a 'home-coming' to her and is filled with the pleasure of meeting lots of familiar faces.
She has a background in research and worked on migratory shorebirds in the Top End of the Northern Territory. She has also worked extensively with Indigenous Ranger groups across the Top End and hopes to continue these collaborations and more in this KBA role.
In her role, Amanda will re-invigorate and grow the KBA Guardian program and help us review the KBA network for birds to strengthen the 'site' pillar of our new Bird Conservation Strategy.
She also hopes to work with people with knowledge of other taxa groups, not just birds as we hope to expand the KBA program to cover the great diversity that Australia hosts.
Amanda will be based in Melbourne and pop into the office a few days a week. Apparently, she also has a list of target birds for Victoria and is keen to buddy up with folks heading out birding in Melbourne and beyond.
